Mosaic Runes is the independent electronic music project of Shane McCarthy. The album was written and recorded in McCarthy’s home studio north of Baltimore MD in November 2023 during arbitrary hours in the night where McCarthy would set up alarms to get up and have brief 60-90 minute sessions before returning to sleep.

The result of this disrupted sleep process created mental / emotional space between hypnopompic awareness, minutes of surreal-like alertness to hypnogogic sedation. Fitful, calm, dreamlike, wakeful. The reality between opened eyes and somnolence bends the passage of time and sound.

These altered states of consciousness wove their way through McCarthy into an array of music gear: synths, drum machines, record samples processed on a hardware tracker, a dying computer and various effects recorded to an analogue 32 track.

During these sessions, the sounds from the equipment formed into rattling sonic landscapes with cybernetic creatures better than electric sheep, scattered across pulsating earth, sand dune, glacier.

With these 2 tracks, Mosaic Runes constructs a matrix inhabited by lucid machines with mechanical dreams. Metallic beats accompanied with ice-ghost melodies. The synthesizer’s touch reminiscent of an android remembering the rhythm within the data.
